Peter would be surprised to learn that the civil authority has no business inculcating virtue. "Punish those who do evil and praise those who do good".
It's stunning to me that Peter could be boldly teaching this... about even pagan rulers who knew nothing of modern liberal democracy... While we, in our day, deny Peter's teaching, about magistrates who've been formed by 2,000 years of God's growing kingdom
Let's dispense with statism by all means. Jesus saves, not chariots. But by no means let us deny explicit biblical doctrine for the same of any -ism.
